Trace people behind Naseebo’s songs: LHC

LAHORE

JUSTICE Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday ordered the SSP Investigation to find out those, who wrote, made and released CDs of vulgar songs sung by Naseebo Lal and state which section of the PPC should be applied to prosecute them.

The SSP Investigation was directed to file his report on July 20.

Earlier, Naseebo Lal, appearing before the court, said she was forced to sing vulgar songs.

The judge was hearing a petition against Naseebo Lal and Nooran Lal for singing vulgar songs.

Petitioner Asif Mehmood Khan, a local lawyer, submitted that the departments concerned in connivance with some other elements were violating the law and the constitution by spoiling the integrity, sanctity and morality of the society. He said Naseebo Lal and Nooran Lal with along with other respondents were busy in making and singing indecent and immoral songs. He said the shelter given by the government to the singers under the Motion Picture Ordinance 1979 was of illegal and heinous nature against the integrity and sanctity of the society.

The petitioner prayed to the court to impose a complete ban on all the audio/video songs of the two respondent female singers and to ban their certification and exhibition permanently. He pleaded that the Central Board of Film Censors should be directed to rectify its attitude towards censorship of films according to the principles laid down in the constitution.

On the previous date of hearing, the Central Board of Film Censor (CBFC) had informed the court that it was governed by the Motion Pictures Ordinance 1979 and its main functions were confined to censorship of cinematographic films presented to it for certification and there was no provision in law which empowered it and other respondent departments to intervene or check the songs being sung by the respondent singers.

The CBFC said that its duty was only to check exhibition in licensed places like cinemas, however, it said that the trend of making vulgar songs was not denied but they were not presented before the respondent departments. Regarding the respondent female singers, the CBFC said they were professional singers and their private work did not come under its purview and it did not certify the songs of Naseebo and Nooran Lal.
